An editor is someone who is in charge of what comes out on a publication. This can be a magazine, a newspaper, an online news portal. After a BA in English Literature, you can start as a reporter or a content writer, and with experience, you can move up the positions of assistant-editor, sub-editor and so on.

Now you do not have to get a BA in English Literature to be a writer. But a student of English literature will have to take up texts from various eras and cultures. You will be exposed to various writing styles and other technicalities of writing. If you have had a course in creative writing that will help you furthermore.
As an author, you can work on your idea for a book, a short story, a novella or poems. You will have to submit the complete manuscript to a publication house. After several rounds of analysis and editing, the work will be published.

Many might not know this, but translation is a very important area today. There are various career opportunities provided to a person who is proficient in English and another language.
