Things That Are Stopping You From Pursuing Your Dream Career

Have you ever sat down to imagine what your life will be like in five years? You will probably be in another country living as a filmmaker, exploring what life has to offer, what the world has to offer and literally living your best life. However, after romanticising a beautiful dream career you sit back down and follow the path that has been set for you which is far far away from your dream.

Ever wonder what is stopping you from following your dream and pursuing your dream career? A lot of times, perhaps. Here are some reasons that could be hindering your path.

1. Too Afraid

One of the reasons most people refrain from following their heart and tread the path most taken is because they are too fearful of the future. Let's all acknowledge that our dream career is out of the ordinary, and we have been told a million times that most people do not make it and obviously, all of us want to make it, right? The uncertainty that our dream career has holds us back from pursuing it.

2. Listening To Others

A lot of our actions and thoughts are based on how the society we live in perceives our life. Therefore, if the normal societal thinking is that engineering and medicine is the best career option, we tend to bend down to please them. We limit our dreams based on the opinions of others and do not let our passion drive us to be happy.

3. Monetary Problems

Money is the gravest issue of all. To follow a career we need skill and to learn that skill we need to pay a skilled person or school/college to teach it to us. However, a lot of people cannot afford to buy numerous amounts of expensive art supplies or a professional camera or even Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and other digital programs. Moreover, the career that you wish to pursue might not be monetarily rewarding and therefore, your parents might be apprehensive about it.

4. Parents Vs Passion

Our parents are amazing - they take care of us, bring us up in a secure environment and shower us with as much love and affection as possible. They also want the best for us and therefore, when it comes to career options that do not guarantee success, they seem to be profoundly disapproving of us pursuing them. Although their concern is legitimate, that does not stop them from being a huge barrier to us pursuing our dream career.

5. You Don't Believe In Yourself

This is the mother of all problems. Lack of confidence and low self-esteem act as a big stop sign to the career of our dreams. The feelings of underconfidence and not believing in yourself hold you back from following what you might be really good at.

There are a million reasons that stop you from becoming who you want to be in the future. However, it is important you fight off all these barriers to pursue something you wish to do. First of all, you need to believe that you are good enough. Instead of thinking, "what if I don't make it?", ask yourself, "why can't I be one of the few who makes it?".

Talk to your parents and explain your situation to them; they will understand. Finally, stop letting the society drive your thoughts. This is your entire life, pursue what you know will bring you joy because, "Do what you love, and you'll never work another day in your life".
