How To Prepare For CAT In Two Months

IIM Calcutta, which is the organising institute for Common Admission Test (CAT) 2018, will be conducting the exam on November 25. This national-level exam is conducted for admission to a range of management programmes in IIMs and other top business schools in the country. Over 2 lakh candidates are expected to attempt CAT this year, which will be conducted in test centres spread across around 147 test cities.

 

As the registration for the CAT exam is nearing its end on September 26, the countdown has begun for the preparation. There is a misconception among management aspirants that CAT is a hard nut to crack and one has to devote at least eight months for the preparation. It is just a myth because hundreds of candidates have cracked the exam in the first attempt with less than two months preparation. However, aspirants should adopt a clear cut strategy in these two months preparation.

Get Familiar With The Exam

The first and foremost step is to get familiar with all the information with regards to the exam and understand what the exam is all about. One should know meticulously about each and every section of the CAT such as CAT exam pattern and selection process.

Recall The Academic Concepts

CAT exam is broadly based on English language, mathematics and logical thinking. Be it any stream, figure out the concepts mastered at the graduation level that can help in CAT preparation. For instance, engineering graduates can use their mathematical skills in CAT preparation.

Master The Tough Topics

With only two months left for the CAT exam, aspirants should use their time strategically. It is always good to master the tough concepts primarily because it will provide enough time to focus on other areas besides boosting the confidence.

Try Different Problems

None of us can predict the CAT question format. Hence, it is a good idea to get acquainted with different types of problems besides focusing on the conventional questions. Practising the different types of problems will also help in time management.

Hone Your Skills In Calculation

Undeniably, the quantitative and verbal ability are the most important sections to earn a good score in CAT. In these precious two months, one should hone their skills in calculations which even helps in the Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) section besides Quantitative Aptitude.

Work On Your Weaknesses

Hard work alone will not help in acing the CAT exam. One should even work on minimising their weaknesses. Figure out where you lack and work on them such as increasing the speed and practising the shortcuts.

Devote More Time For Weightage Topics

Be it any entrance exam, mastering the most important topics primarily is advised. There are many concepts in the CAT that are asked year after year. We suggest candidates to prepare weightage topics based on section-wise for better clarity. Solving the previous years' question papers will help a lot in accessing the weightage.

Opt Section-wise Preparation

Though the preparation time is less than two months, aspirants are encouraged to take up section-wise preparation that helps in putting ambiguity at bay. This mode of preparation will also assist in exploring new shortcuts.

Never Ignore Practice

Practice is the most important quality that one has to maintain in any entrance examination including the likes of CAT. Mastering the concepts alone will not work. One should work parallelly on practising as well. We even advise aspirants to opt section-wise practising to gain confidence.

Attempt CAT Mock Test

Taking the mock test is the most important step in an examination such as CAT. The mock test displays where you stand in the cut-throat competition. During the last phase of preparation, we advise candidates to take at least one mock test daily.
