An MBA in SCM and logistics may be taken either as a part-time or a full-time course based on the student's convenience. There are a number of global certifications (like APICS and CTL) available in this field. You may also choose to go for any of those.

This is one job that will have a lot of human interactions. Thus, you must have very good communication skills. If you know more than one language, the same will come in handy in this profession. You should be able to think on your feet and handle contingencies as and when they appear.

For this, you need good critical thinking abilities. Other than that, you must have a lot of patience while dealing with people. At the end of the day, since you are managing the entire process, if anything goes wrong you should be ready to take up the blame for the same. Most of the candidates who have a post-graduation degree in logistics and supply chain management land themselves with jobs in the courier companies, some of them even work with freight and forwarding agents and deal with all aspects and modes of the transportation. Shipping companies and cargo handlers also employ such people in large numbers.

Although most of the jobs in this field are in the private sector, you may also choose amongst the various government organisations as well. There are many organisations that hire third-party logistics in order to get their work done. Working in this sort of a place gives you a wider exposure to various companies and the facilities that they have to offer.

An average postgraduate degree holder in this field starts off with a salary that is close to Rs 3.5 lakhs. The value is higher for people who are working in the retail chain logistics department. Those people start off with a salary that is close to Rs 4 lakhs and with experience they may earn as much as Rs 15 lakhs.

Since the functioning of any company depends greatly on its logistics and supply chain support team, these people are paid very highly.

These days, even the IT companies (which are the biggest recruiters in the country) employ a lot of people from the world of logistics and supply chain management.
