Want to Study in Australia? Here's your guide from Youngrads

In recent years, Australia has emerged as a top choice for Indian students seeking higher education, with a notable surge observed in international student enrollment following the global pandemic.

Want to Study in Australia? Here's your guide

Notably, India stands as the second-largest contributor to Australia's international student body, boasting a substantial 1,22,391 Indian students enrolled from January to September 2023. This reflects the growing preference for Australian institutions among Indian students, highlighting the country's allure as a premier destination for academic pursuits.

International studies provide Indian students with valuable opportunities for personal and professional development, offering exposure to diverse skill sets, cultural perspectives, and improved communication abilities. Pursuing education in countries like Australia, the UK, the US, and Canada is particularly popular among Indian students, given the numerous career prospects associated with an international degree. However, the trend extends beyond these traditional choices, as Indian students now also explore educational opportunities in over 240 nations, including countries like Uzbekistan, the Philippines, Russia, Ireland, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan.

Your Guide to Australia Study

Australian universities offer a diverse array of courses and programs, providing a wealth of opportunities for students. Anuj Gupta, CEO of YounGrads, outlined the following steps for Indian students when planning their educational journey in Australia :

Start with your documents

Collect essential documents like academic certificates from previous institutions and an IELTS certificate, which is a prerequisite for certain university admissions. For students aspiring to study in Australia, achieving a minimum overall IELTS score of 6.0 for a bachelor's degree and 6.5 for a master's degree is mandatory for enrollment. These documents play a vital role during the submission of your university application.

Explore and select universities and courses that match your interests and career objectives. Be sure to verify application deadlines and requirements.

Application process

To seek admission to an Australian university, seek support from authorized agents or platforms. They can help with the application process and offer guidance, as major universities do not allow direct applications and employ agents for initial screening in high-volume regions to enhance efficiency and prevent fraudulent applications.

Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement

After receiving the offer letter from the university, the key step is the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) process, where universities assess if the student genuinely intends to study. This involves providing documents, mainly focusing on financial aspects such as available funds, family assets, and ties to the home country. The Australian Government, under SSVF, leaves it to the universities to meet GTE requirements. The involvement of students' parents is crucial in preparing for this process, starting from day one if the student plans to study in Australia.

Start the Visa Process

After meeting GTE requirements, accepting the offer, and paying tuition fee, students get a Confirmation of Enrolment (COE). To start the Study Visa process, submit the application with required documents (finance proof, health insurance, English proficiency, and COE). The visa process typically takes 16 days, but varies hence check the Australian High Commission for current processing times. It's recommended to apply at least 2 months before the course starts.

According to Anuj Gupta, CEO of YounGrads, an online student recruitment platform dedicated to providing extensive guidance on overseas education, "Selecting International Studies involves a meticulous planning process, encompassing various formalities. It is crucial to exercise careful consideration during both the university and visa application procedures. Students can seek guidance from experts and platforms like YounGrads to navigate the entire study process, starting from university selection to travel arrangements. Moreover, while Australia presents educational opportunities, students also have the option to explore scholarship programs to alleviate financial burdens."

Furthermore, Australia's commendable limits on working hours for students with study visas, along with India and Australia's agreement - Mechanism for the Mutual Recognition of Qualifications, guaranteeing that degrees earned by Indian students in Australian universities hold recognition in India, make it a top choice for academic pursuits. These recent developments solidify Australia's standing as one of the premier destinations for academic endeavors.
