The State Merit Scholarship Kerala (SMS) is a program that offers financial support to deserving students in Kerala who are pursuing their undergraduate and postgraduate studies. It is administered by the Department of Collegiate Education, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Government of Kerala. The scholarship scheme has a total of 450 slots, with 300 available for undergraduate students and 150 for postgraduate students. Its primary goal is to enhance employability and decrease unemployment rates by addressing the issue of poverty and financial difficulties faced by students.

Eligibility Criteria

The State Merit Scholarship in Kerala is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students who are residents of Kerala. In addition to this, the students should have secured a minimum of 60% in their Plus Two/Graduation. Students from families with a yearly income of less than 1 Lakh are eligible to apply for the Scholarship.

Registration Process

The application process for the State Merit Scholarship is online. It involves filling the application form, uploading the required documents, and submitting it before the deadline. The list of required documents includes a recent passport size photograph, a scanned copy of the applicant's mark sheets, income certificate, and a scanned copy of the applicant's bank account details.

• Fill the necessary information.
• A registration ID will be assigned.
• After cross-checking the details, complete the process and submit it.
• Make a note of the Registration ID and password for future use.
• Then, on the left navigation panel, click on Candidate login to finish the application process.

Scholarship Amount

• 300 graduate students will receive INR 1,250 per annum.
• 150 postgraduate students will receive INR 1,500 per annum.

Selection Process

The selection for the State Merit Scholarship is based on the marks obtained by the students in their Plus Two/Graduation. A merit list is prepared, and scholarships are awarded based on the ranking in the merit list. The scholarship is renewed every year based on the student's academic performance during the previous year.
