The Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (IIT Ropar) is dedicated to fostering academic excellence and ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder deserving students from pursuing quality education. To this end, IIT Ropar offers a variety of scholarships aimed at supporting students across different categories. Among these, the Institute Merit-cum-Means (MCM) Scholarship stands out as a prominent support mechanism for undergraduate students.

The MCM Scholarship at IIT Ropar is designed to benefit around 25% of undergraduate engineering and technology students. This scholarship is particularly beneficial for students from the general category. Recipients of the MCM Scholarship receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 1000 and a waiver of their tuition fees. To continue receiving this scholarship, students must meet specified academic standards on an annual basis.
Merit Prizes and Certificates
In addition to the MCM Scholarship, IIT Ropar recognizes and rewards academic excellence through merit prizes and certificates. These awards are given to the top 7% of students in each BTech program based on their Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) from the previous semester. Each prize is valued at Rs. 2,500. To be eligible, students must have an SGPA/CGPA of at least 8.50.
Free Studentships for Financially Needy Students
IIT Ropar also extends support to financially needy students through free studentships, which cover tuition fees for 10% of the student body. To maintain this benefit, students must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.0, earn credits not less than 20 times the number of semesters registered for, and achieve an SGPA of at least 6.0 in the previous semester.
Support for SC/ST Students
Special provisions are in place for students from Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories. All SC/ST students are exempt from paying tuition fees, regardless of their parents' income. Additionally, SC/ST students whose parents' income falls below a certain threshold receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 300 and are exempt from paying hostel room rent. Alternatively, they can opt for free mess facilities and a pocket allowance instead of the stipend.
Further support is available through scholarships like the Post-Metric Scholarship from state governments and the Top Class Education Scholarship from the Government of India. Various NGOs and external agencies also offer additional scholarships to SC/ST students.
BTech-MTech Dual Degree Scholarships
For students enrolled in the BTech-MTech dual degree program, scholarships are available in the final year for those who demonstrate strong academic performance. These scholarships are partially equivalent to those awarded to MTech students, providing additional financial support as they complete their dual degree.
