École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne is offering an online course called " Linear and Discrete Optimisation". This 7-week-long course will commence from 17th March, 2014 onwards.
About the Course:
This course serves as an introduction to linear and discrete optimisation from the viewpoint of a mathematician or computer scientist. Besides learning how linear and discrete optimisation can be applied, we focus on understanding methods that solve linear program and discrete optimisation problems in a mathematically rigorous way.
The course starts by discussing what a linear program is and how linear programming can be applied. Then, we will treat the simplex method and the theory of duality. We will then discuss some combinatorial optimisation problems like maximum weight bipartite matching and maximum flows.
The course constitutes about half of the material on linear and discrete optimisation that is taught for mathematics and computer science undergraduates at EPFL and will feature video lectures, quizzes, programming assignments, and a final exam.
Friedrich Eisenbrand will be the course instructor.
The course will have a workload of 3-6 hours of work / week.
It will be taught in English and the subtitles will be available in English.
