English Composition I: Achieving Expertise is a free online course, is a part of the Reasoning, Data Analysis and Writing" Specialization.

Students will gain foundation for college-level writing valuable for nearly any field. Students will learn how to read carefully, write effective arguments, understand the writing process, engage with others' ideas, cite accurately, and craft powerful prose.

About the course
English Composition I provides an introduction to and foundation for the academic reading and writing characteristic of college. Attending explicitly to disciplinary context, you will learn to read critically, write effective arguments, understand the writing process, and craft powerful prose that meets readers' expectations.

Course Syllabus
Unit 1 (Weeks 1-3): Critical Review
Unit 2 (Weeks 4-5): Explicating a Visual Image
Unit 3 (Weeks 6-9): Case Study
Unit 4 (Weeks 10-12): Writing an Op-Ed

Prerequisites
Students should have basic English proficiency and exposure to secondary-level (high-school level) English or composition.
