IIT Madras Offers Online Data Science Program, Check Application Process And Other Details

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is offering an online Data Science Program for the next batch, a first-of-its-kind project inaugurated in 2020. The program seeks to turn anyone who has passed Class 12 and studied English and Maths in Class 10 into a Data Scientist, irrespective of their geographic location, academic background, or job. The next qualification batch's classes will begin in September 2021.

The fact that learners came from as many as 27 states and 5 union territories for the foundation level demonstrates the program's success. Participants included students, engineers, bankers, managers, researchers, teachers, and CEOs, among others.

More than 70 CEOs, founders, directors, and vice presidents of organisations, as well as officials from state and union governments and staff of ISRO and CSIR, attended the first batch.

This IIT Madras online data science program offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to study at IIT Madras without having to take the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).
Along with their on-campus programs, students can opt for a Diploma in Programming and Data Science.

As Data Science is already being used to tackle real-world problems in a variety of fields, the program will draw participants from a wide range of industries, including accounting, engineering, healthcare, information technology, law, marketing, teaching, and training.

This course aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP), allowing students to pursue multi-disciplinary learning while also taking on-campus courses of their choice.

IIT Madras Online Data Science Programme: Application Process

The candidates will go through a qualifying procedure as part of the application process, in which IIT Madras is offering four weeks of online training via video lectures, live interactions with course instructors, and assignments.

Students are entitled to take the qualifying exam after completing the online course. Students who pass the qualification exam will be accepted to the foundation level.

The deadline to apply for the next Data Science Program batch is August 30, 2021.

IIT Madras Online Data Science Program

IIT Madras has developed a novel learning approach that combines online course delivery with in-person evaluation.

Students from low-income families can also apply for scholarships for up to 75% of the course fee at IIT Madras.

Students will have the option to leave the program at any time and receive a Certificate, Diploma, or Degree from IIT Madras.

After clearing the qualification process, a total of 7,116 students were accepted into the first batch of foundation levels.

Regular entrance students can progress to the diploma level after passing the foundation level. Students can pursue a Diploma in Programming, or in Data Science, or both.
