As Maha Shivratri 2025 approaches, the Delhi government has announced the closure of all government and private schools on February 26, 2025. This decision allows students to fully engage in the celebrations without the concern of missing academic activities. Maha Shivratri, one of the most revered Hindu festivals, is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, commemorating their divine marriage and the significance of the Tandava, the cosmic dance of creation, preservation, and destruction performed by Lord Shiva.

Why is Maha Shivratri Celebrated?
Maha Shivratri, meaning 'The Great Night of Shiva', is an occasion for devotees to offer prayers, observe fasts, and participate in night-long vigils at temples across India. Devotees seek blessings for prosperity, wisdom, and spiritual awakening. In Delhi, temples such as Neeli Chatri Temple, Gauri Shankar Temple, and Jhandewalan Temple witness a surge of visitors engaging in special rituals, abhishekams (ritual bathing of the Shiva Linga), and bhajans.
The Delhi Directorate of Education confirmed that all schools in the national capital will remain closed on February 26, 2025, marking the religious significance of Maha Shivratri. Parents and students who require further information regarding the closure can contact their respective school administrations for clarity.
