Why JEE Main Only In Gujarati Language: CM Mamata Banerjee

Why JEE Main exam to be held in Gujarati, Hindi and the English? CM Mamata Banerjee questions.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has raised an objection to the medium of instruction in the JEE Main exam. She questioned why the national-level engineering entrance examination (Joint Entrance Examination Main exam) to be conducted in Gujarati leaving other regional languages at bay. The JEE Main official information bulletin released by NTA reads that the medium of the question paper shall be in the English, Hindi and Gujarati.

Why JEE Main Only In Gujarati Language?

Mamata Banerjee tweeted, "Our country is India, which is home to so many religions, cultures, languages, creeds and communities. However, maligning all regions and regional languages is the intention of the government at the centre."

"Joint Entrance Exams so long were conducted in English and Hindi languages. Surprisingly, now only Gujarati language has been added. Such a step is not at all praiseworthy," Chief Minister tweeted.

Banerjee also tweeted, "I love Gujarati language. But, why have other regional languages been ignored? Why injustice is being meted out to them? If Gujarati has to be there, then all regional languages including Bengali must be there."

"Unless this issue is decided gracefully, there will be strong protests all around as sentiments of people who speak other regional languages would be deeply hurt due to this injustice." Mamata Banerjee concluded.

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) twice a year. The online exam will be held in January and April 2020.
