Online admission in colleges from 2015-16

Kolkata, Nov 20: The West Bengal Government will introduce the long-awaited online admission process in all government and government-aided colleges in the state from the 2015-2016 academic session.

Higher Education Minister of the state Partha Chatterjee told the Assembly that the vice-chancellors and principals had been instructed to implement the process. Replying to a supplementary question, Chatterjee said that the state government had also sanctioned a grant of Rs 1.5 lakh to each college for the purpose.

Replying to a question, Chatterjee said that eight government colleges and ten government-aided colleges had been set up in the state between June 1, 2011 and September 30, 2014.

Twenty government colleges were being constructed in the state under the programme to enable each district to have at least one at least; the minister said. Replying to a question, the minister also said that approval to set up a new government-aided college required at least two acres of land in the city area and five acres of land in the suburb or village, besides society registration certificate and trust deed.

It also required a minimum reserve fund of Rs 15 lakh for five years, besides having a savings or current bank account of Rs five lakh, he said. There must be an affiliation from a recognised university, and the Administrative Council must follow the UGC norms while framing academic and administrative curriculum of the proposed college, the minister said.
