Mumbai, March 9: Two days after Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao asked him to resume office, Mumbai University vice-chancellor Rajan Welukar today formally resumed his duties.
"The Vice Chancellor discussed urgent administrative issues and concerns with the Registrar and had a discussion with University officers over the review of current issues and guided the administration in some pending issues," a Mumbai University official said
Rao, who is the chancellor of all the universities in the state, had issued the directive to re-instate Welukar following the Supreme Court's ruling of February 27.
The Bombay High Court had earlier asked Welukar to refrain from acting as the VC in the interim as some petitions have challenged his appointment and his credentials. The Supreme Court last month stayed the HC order.
