Uttarakhand Govt Increases MBBS Interns’ Honorarium to Rs. 25,000

The Uttarakhand government has approved a significant increase in the monthly honorarium paid to MBBS interns working in government medical colleges. The state Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, on September 11, 2026, approved a proposal to raise the monthly honorarium from Rs. 17,000 to Rs. 25,000.

The decision provides financial relief to medical interns undergoing compulsory internship training in the state's government medical colleges. The revised amount represents an increase of Rs. 8,000 per month, or nearly 47% over the earlier honorarium.

MBBS Intern Honorarium Increased from Rs. 17,000 to Rs. 25,000

According to officials, Uttarakhand's State Director General of Information Banshidhar Tiwari announced the Cabinet decision following the meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The monthly honorarium for MBBS interns, which was earlier fixed at Rs. 17,000, will now be Rs. 25,000.

The revision comes after MBBS interns in the state had raised concerns over their stipend. Around 600 interns had recently participated in protests seeking an increase from Rs. 17,000 to Rs. 30,000 per month.

Five Government Medical Colleges Covered

The revised honorarium will benefit MBBS interns in Uttarakhand's five government medical colleges. These institutions are located in:

• Srinagar
• Haldwani
• Dehradun
• Haridwar
• Almora

These government medical colleges offer MBBS as well as postgraduate medical courses.

What the Honorarium Hike Means for MBBS Interns

With the revised payment, interns will receive an additional Rs. 8,000 every month compared with the earlier amount. The increase is expected to provide greater financial support during the compulsory internship period, when medical graduates undertake supervised clinical training and contribute to patient-care services.

The decision is also significant in the context of recent demands by medical interns across Uttarakhand for improved stipends and working conditions. The latest Cabinet approval increases the state's MBBS intern honorarium to Rs. 25,000 a month.

The Uttarakhand government's decision is expected to provide immediate financial relief to interns in government medical colleges and strengthen support for medical trainees during their clinical training period.
