UP Announces 4-Day School Holiday in August 2025

The Uttar Pradesh Education Department has announced a series of school holidays from August 14 to 17, 2025, covering important cultural, religious, and national events. The break includes Chehlum, Independence Day, and Krishna Janmashtami, providing students, teachers, and staff a four-day stretch away from regular classes. While schools will remain closed for most of this period, Independence Day will still be marked with flag hoisting ceremonies and patriotic programs before the holiday begins in full swing.

The Uttar Pradesh Education Department has announced that all government, aided, and private schools across the state will observe holidays from 14 August to 17 August 2025 on account of Chehlum, Independence Day, and Krishna Janmashtami.

According to the official notice,

14 August 2025 (Thursday): Schools will remain closed for Chehlum, an important religious observance in the Islamic calendar.

15 August 2025 (Friday): Independence Day celebrations will be held in the morning in many schools, followed by a holiday after the flag hoisting ceremonies.

16 & 17 August 2025 (Saturday & Sunday): Schools will be closed for Krishna Janmashtami and the regular Sunday weekly holiday.

This sequence will provide students and staff with a continuous four-day break, giving them an opportunity to participate in religious, cultural, and national events. While Independence Day programs will be conducted in many schools with mandatory participation of students and teachers, regular academic activities will be suspended.

Authorities have urged schools to ensure that Independence Day flag hoisting is done in accordance with the national protocol, followed by patriotic programs where possible. Parents have been advised to stay informed through school circulars regarding any specific events planned during the holidays.

The long weekend is also expected to boost local tourism and festive markets, as many families may use the opportunity to travel or take part in community functions. However, schools will resume normal classes from Monday, 18 August 2025.

This holiday period coincides with the festive and monsoon season in UP, and the state government has reminded citizens to stay safe during heavy rainfall forecasts in certain districts.
