With this notification, UPSC has opened the online application window from February 4 to February 24, 2026, up to 6:00 PM. This highly anticipated recruitment process aims to fill a total of 933 vacancies across various prestigious civil services through the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2026.

The UPSC CSE is regarded as one of the most competitive examinations in India, attracting lakhs of aspirants every year for services such as IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS, and other Central Civil Services (Group A & B).

UPSC CSE & IFS 2026: Important Dates

As per the official schedule, the UPSC CSE 2026 Preliminary Examination will be conducted on May 24, 2026, across multiple examination centres nationwide. Candidates who qualify the prelims will be eligible to appear for the UPSC CSE Main Examination, which is scheduled to begin on August 21, 2026.

The Indian Forest Service (IFS) Preliminary Examination 2026 will also be conducted through the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, and successful candidates will proceed to the IFS Mains examination later in the year.

UPSC has announced a total of 933 vacancies to be filled through the Civil Services Examination 2026. These vacancies include posts in:

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for UPSC CSE & IFS 2026, candidates must meet the prescribed age, educational qualification, and nationality criteria.

Age Limit: Candidates must be between 21 and 32 years as of August 1, 2026. This date is the cut-off for age eligibility.

Age Relaxation: Relaxation in the upper age limit is applicable for candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC, PwBD, and other eligible categories as per government norms.

Educational Qualification: Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree from a recognized university. Final-year students are also eligible to apply, subject to conditions.

Application Process

Candidates must apply online through the UPSC Online Application Portal available at upsc.gov.in. The application process includes Part I registration, Part II registration, uploading of documents, and payment of the application fee. Selection Process

The UPSC Civil Services Examination 2026 selection process consists of three stages:

  • Preliminary Examination - Objective type (qualifying in nature for Mains)
