A Glimpse into the UPSC CSE Process

The UPSC CSE is renowned for its rigorous and multi-tiered selection process. This year, the examination journey began with the Preliminary Exam, held on June 16, 2024. Candidates who cleared the Prelims by July 1 were eligible to appear for the Mains Examination, which spanned from September 20 to 29, 2024. The Mains was a marathon, consisting of seven papers, including both compulsory and optional subjects, conducted in two shifts each day.

After the Mains, the Personality Test (Interview) phase took place from January 7 to April 17, 2025. A total of 2,845 candidates made it to this final stage, where they were evaluated on their suitability for a career in the civil services. The interview was conducted in two sessions daily and further narrowed down the pool of candidates.

Recruitment and Selection: An Overview

This year, the UPSC CSE recruitment drive aims to fill 1,056 prestigious posts in various departments of the Indian government. The registration process for the exam took place between February 14 and March 5, 2024. The entire process, from application to final result, is a testament to the UPSC's commitment to selecting only the most capable individuals to serve the nation in key administrative roles.
