The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is set to conduct the Combined Defence Services (CDS) II Examination on September 1, 2024. The application process for this prestigious exam concluded on June 4, 2024, and admit cards were issued on August 23, 2024.

The exam will be held in three shifts: English from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, General Knowledge from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, and Mathematics from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
CDS Exam Structure and Preparation:
Candidates are advised to arrive at their designated exam centres at least 30 minutes before the start of their first paper. The CDS exam is conducted offline over a single day, with candidates marking their answers on an OMR sheet. This year, the CDS II exam offers 457 seats across various branches of the Indian Armed Forces, making it a highly competitive and sought-after examination.
The CDS selection process comprises multiple stages. Candidates first need to clear the written examination. Those who pass are then invited to the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview, a rigorous assessment of their suitability for the armed forces. This is followed by a medical examination to ensure candidates meet the required health standards. Finally, a merit list is prepared based on performance across all stages, determining the successful candidates.
Important Dates and Exam Timings:
- English: 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM
- General Knowledge: 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM
