Schools Shut in Lucknow as Heavy Rain Disrupts Normal Life; Safety Measures Prioritized
The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a precautionary closure of all schools in Lucknow on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, due to relentless heavy rainfall that has led to waterlogging and traffic snarls in various parts of the city.
The decision comes after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert warning of continued rain, thunderstorms, and possible flash floods in low-lying areas of Lucknow and nearby districts.
As per the official order issued by the District Magistrate of Lucknow, the school holiday will apply to:
- All government and private institutions
- Students from Nursery to Class 12
- ICSE, CBSE, and UP Board-affiliated schools
The administration highlighted that roads are inundated in several areas, affecting vehicular movement and pedestrian safety. The school closure aims to prevent accidents and health risks associated with exposure to flooded areas and contaminated water.
Authorities have advised parents to keep children indoors, while school administrations have been instructed to reschedule tests or assessments planned for the day. No online classes are mandated, but students are encouraged to revise from home.
The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) and disaster response teams have been deployed to clear drainage lines and assist with emergency water removal. Residents are also urged to avoid unnecessary travel.
The holiday decision aligns with statewide safety protocols triggered during extreme weather conditions under the Disaster Management Act.
