UGC To Conduct CUET For Admissions To Under Graduate Courses, Check CUET UG Application And Other Details Here

In a major development that is likely to influence and restructure the admission process to various undergraduate programmes in the central universities across the country, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced the holding of a Common University Entrance Test or CUET for getting admissions to various UG courses in the Indian central universities.

The Common University Entrance Test or CUET for admissions to Under Graduate Courses for the academic session 2022-23 in all the UGC funded Central Universities will be conducted in 13 designated Indian languages covering Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Urdu, Assamese, Bengali, Punjabi, Odia and English by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Confirming the same, UGC Chairman Jagdesh Kumar said, "We have decided to make Central University Entrance Test (CUET) compulsory for admission in Universities which can be given in 13 different languages. We have given a lot of choices to the students."

"The announcement of the Central University Entrance Test (CUET) is a student-friendly reform. The students who wanted to get admission to Universities had to write various exams whereas some universities took admission on the basis of Class 12 results," he added.

"We've also issued a public notice which clearly says that all universities can use Central University Entrance Test scores for admissions. It is the social responsibility of all Universities to take under graduation admissions considering CUET scores," Mr. Kumar further stated.

According to the UGC, students undertaking CUET UG can now gain admissions into central varsities by using the CUET scores in place of the Class 12 scores.

The CUET UG can also be adopted by the State, Private and Deemed to be Universities, as per the UGC notice without compromising and changing their existing reservation and admission policy but for the admissions that should be based on the Central University Entrance Test (CUET).

CUET UG Application Date

The Common University Entrance Test or CUET UG application will be available in the first week of April 2022 with the UGC CUET likely to be conducted in the first week of July.

As per the UGC notice, a large number of Central Universities have confirmed their participation in the UGC CUET 2022, details of which are available on the official NTA website along with the CUET UG detailed structure.
