UGC provides Rs 46 lakh grant to Shivaji Varsity

University Grant Commission (UGC), New Delhi has approved the grant of Rs 46.20 lakh to the Centre for Distance Education (CDE), Shivaji University for the academic year 2013-14.

UGC had sent the approval letter to CDE in the first week of January 2014.

CDE official said, it is the highest amount among the UGC approved till date.

Arun Bhosale, CDE director, said, "The department had applied for the development grant in November last year and received the approval letter last week. The funds will mainly be used for infrastructural developments, students support material and services, buying technological instruments and staff training. The salary component will also be covered under the funds."

He added that CDE just received the approval letter form UGC. They asked us to claim the first installment amount by 31st March 2014.

"We have already replied to the UGC claiming our first installment. The funds will play a huge role in improving the existing conditions of the centre. Last year, the centre had received Rs 40 lakh as development grant," Bhosale said.

Currently, Shivaji Universitys' CDE offers 10 various programmes in Post graduation. CDE has 30 study centres across the Sangli, Satara and Kolhapur districts. More than 50,000 students are studying at CDE.
