Dual Enrollment

The new directive seeks to address long-standing barriers that have limited students' ability to enroll in dual academic programs. As highlighted by UGC Secretary Prof. Manish R. Joshi, a major obstacle has been the requirement for migration or school-leaving certificates during admissions, which often restricted students from pursuing two courses at once. Prof. Joshi emphasized that this requirement undermines the objective of offering flexible educational pathways and limiting students' academic growth.
Options for Pursuing Dual Programs

Under the revised guidelines, students have several options to pursue two programs at once:

• Two Full-Time Physical Programs: Students can enroll in two full-time, physical academic programs as long as their schedules do not overlap.

• Combination of Physical and Online Programs: Students can combine a full-time physical program with one in Open and Distance Learning (ODL) or online mode.

• Two ODL or Online Programs: It's also possible to pursue two ODL or online programs at the same time.

Importantly, all programs must be from UGC-recognized institutions, ensuring that students receive quality education while maximizing their learning opportunities.

While the UGC's guidelines were introduced more than two years ago, some universities have been slow to adopt them fully. This delay is preventing students from capitalizing on the opportunity to enhance their qualifications and skill sets, which are crucial in today's fast-evolving job market. The UGC is urging HEIs to expedite the implementation process and remove the hurdles that are obstructing dual enrollment.

The introduction of dual enrollment is part of a broader vision to make higher education more holistic and multidisciplinary.
