The University Grants Commission has issued notification for making NEET entrance examination mandatory for admissions into medical courses across the country.
This mandation by the UGC has been brought into effect owing to the incessant confusion over the modus operandi of medical admissions across the states.
On September 15, 2016 the UGC issued a notification making National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) mandatory for admissions in deemed medical universities. The notification states that all the universities whether private or state aided institutes offering medical courses should provide admission through common platform based on NEET merit list.
As per the UGC Regulation 2016, every university in the country is governed by the UGC norms.
Exam Strategy to be Successful in NEET: Do's and Dont's
According to clause 6.3 of the UGC Regulation 2016, admission for medical courses should be conducted through Common test as deemed by the Medical Council of India (MCI). Section 20 (1) of the UGC Act 2016 made it very clear that all admissions for medical courses organised by either State or Centre should be conducted through NEET.
