Coimbatore: The University Grants Commission has come out with a list of institutions in the country, which have been recommended to set up Deendayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendras.
About 8 institutions from Tamil Nadu have been selected under the government and aided category. The eight institutions are: Bharathidasan University (Trichy), Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya College of Arts and Science (Coimbatore), Gandhigram Rural Institute of Tamil Nadu (Gandhigram), Vivekanand College (Kanyakumari), Loyola College (Chennai), Dr N G P Arts and Science College (Coimbatore), Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science for Women (Coimbatore) and S N S College of Technology (Coimbatore).
The apex body has recommended 48 institutions across the country under the government and aided category while 17 institutions have been selected under the self-financed category.
According to TOI, the UGC has invited applications from institutions across the country in January 2015 for which, a total of 708 proposals have been sent, seeking the grants from UGC.
The government and government-aided institutions have already granted with the financial assistance from the UGC to start the vocational centres whereas self-financing institutions have to shell out money from their trusts to start the Kaushal Kendras.
