In a significant move to bolster health, wellness, and international cooperation, the University of O.P. Jindal Global and the United Arab Emirates Embassy in India have come together to unveil four new padel courts at the university's campus. This initiative, led by UAE Ambassador to India, His Excellency Abdulnasser Alshaali, PhD, alongside Prof. (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor of O.P. Jindal Global University, marks a milestone in promoting not just sports but also cross-cultural ties between the two countries. The ceremony highlighted a mutual dedication to creating healthier communities and strengthening the friendship between India and the UAE.

The courts are named in honor of four leading UAE airlines – Air Arabia, Emirates, Etihad, and FlyDubai, reflecting the significant role aviation plays in connecting people across borders. This unique naming effort, a brainchild of Ambassador Alshaali and Prof. (Dr.) Kumar, celebrates the airlines' key contributions to bridging distances and creating avenues for educational and professional growth. Through this initiative, students gain access to broader global opportunities, fostering cultural exchanges and deepening the bilateral relations between the UAE and India.
Padel Courts Open New Avenues for Sports and Cultural Exchange
Ambassador Alshaali, during the inauguration, expressed his enthusiasm about padel's rapidly growing popularity in the UAE and its emerging interest in India. "Padel is the UAE's fastest-growing sport and has experienced a surge of interest in India over recent years. The opening of the state-of-the-art Air Arabia, Emirates, Etihad, and FlyDubai padel courts here at JGU will not only open new opportunities for JGU students to participate in a highly social and exciting sporting activity, it will also offer JGU scope to host international-level padel tournaments and training camps. The UAE takes pride in supporting the growth of padel in India, and enhancing our cooperation with JGU," he remarked. This venture is not just about sports but also about offering JGU students a platform to engage in dynamic, social activities, potentially hosting international events that could further spotlight padel's appeal.
The collaboration between JGU and the UAE Embassy in establishing the padel courts is a testament to the strong ties between India and the UAE. It underscores a shared vision of promoting physical fitness and wellness among youth, alongside nurturing a spirit of international camaraderie. Prof. (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, reflecting on the initiative, highlighted the transformative power of sports in uniting communities. "At JGU, we believe in the power of sports and fitness to bring people together and inspire healthy lifestyles. Naming these courts after the UAE airlines is a tribute to the bridges that aviation builds between our two nations. It is a reminder of the possibilities that open up when people are connected, whether through sports, education, business, or cultural exchange," he stated.
The event saw participation from JGU's leadership, faculty, and student body, along with representatives from the honored airlines, Air Arabia, Emirates, Etihad, and FlyDubai. This gathering underscored the collective support for the initiative and the broader objectives it aims to achieve in terms of health, wellness, and cross-cultural engagement.
In essence, the inauguration of these padel courts at JGU embodies a broader commitment to fostering health and well-being, while simultaneously strengthening the bonds between the UAE and India. It opens up new avenues for students to partake in exciting sports activities, while also setting the stage for international events that can bring together participants from various backgrounds. This initiative not only enriches the student experience at JGU but also serves as a symbol of the enduring friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
