Times World University Rankings 2023: IISc Bangalore, Shoolini University ranked among best in India

Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru has emerged as the number one university in India as per the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2023. Shoolini University, Himachal Pradesh became the surprise packet by becoming the best private institution in India featuring among the 351-400 rank band. What is more surprising is that it ranks 39 in the world in the category of Citations.

Other Indian colleges to make the list include Alagappa University, Mahatma Gandhi University, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar and IIT Hyderabad, among others.

In case you are surprised to see none of the reputed IITs in the list so far, be safe in the knowledge that most of them have been boycotting the rankings for the past few years raising doubts over the parameters and transparency of the exercise.

• 1,799 universities across 104 countries and regions participated in this mammoth exercise.
• Colleges were judged on 13 different indicators across four major areas: Teaching, Research, Knowledge Transfer and International Outlook.

India at the Ranking

• The US with 177 institutions, is the most-represented country in the world while China and India (with 75 colleges) finish 4th and 6th respectively.
• China is miles ahead of India with 11 colleges in the top 200 as compared to none of India's. Even our topper - IISc Bangalore find its place only in the 200-300 rank band.

• Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences, also known simply as Shoolini University, is a private university located near Kasauli in Solan district, Himachal Pradesh.
• The university boasts of a 100 per cent placement record in several core programs and has filed more than 1,100 patents in its existence so far.
• The university offers courses in Engineering, Management, Law, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Computer Sciences, Basic and Applied Sciences, Agriculture, and Mass Communication.
