Indore, February 12: Four female government school teachers have been served termination notices for being absent from duty for long time. After a probe found them guilty, the School Education Department's Joint Director Kaushal Kishore Pandey served termination of service notices to all four of them.

Long unauthorised absence from duties is considered a serious matter under Madhya Pradesh Civil Services Conduct Rules, an official of the department told PTI. "If they fail to respond to the notice within seven days, which is their last chance, their services will be deemed as terminated and they will also not be entitle to any pension or other payments due to them," he said.

Lecturer Sangita Kashyap, posted at Government Ahilya Ashram School Number 1 had remained absent from duties since 1994. She was appointed as Lecturer in 1990. Similarly, higher grade teacher Rachna Dube from the same school has been absent from duty since 2006.

Another higher grade teacher Vijaylaxmi Rai posted in Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Khajrana area was absent from duty since 2000 while Sonali Gupta who was posted as a higher grade teacher in the Government Higher Secondary School at Vijay Nagar never reported for duty since 2007.

Social activist Chinmay Mishra said that when this is the situation in a big city like Indore, the condition of education institutions in rural areas where the government spends crores of rupees on school education can be imagined. Mishra also demanded action against officials who failed to act against these erring teachers.
