Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has signed an agreement with USA-based University of Illinois, to improve market access on behalf of small and midsized farmers in India, by developing market channels called Market Maker India.

It is aimed at developing an Indian version of Market Maker suitable for use among Indian farmers and food-related enterprises, help the farmers profitably and participate in market driven value chain in India and global export markets, according to a TNAU release here.

It would also develop a model program for public-private cooperation to meet the evolving needs of the global agricultural and food distribution market, it said.

MMI will facilitate the farmers organisations, commodity groups and agri-preneurs for linking the market to realize maximum profit.

It will create a Information and Communication Technology infrastructure with farmers and buyers' data base in collaboration with the University of Illinois, the release said.
