Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena has advocated for schools to abstain from conducting special classes during the current summer holidays to shield students from the effects of the heatwave. In a statement released on Thursday, Meena underscored the significance of adhering to this directive, emphasizing that district collectors should oversee schools' compliance.

Given the severe heat and heatwave-like conditions prevailing in many parts of Tamil Nadu, there is a concern regarding potential heat-related illnesses among individuals. Meena's official release stated that officials have been prepped beforehand on the requisite measures to tackle this situation.
Furthermore, Meena has counseled district collectors to ensure schools' compliance with this directive. He noted that the maximum temperature in several regions of Tamil Nadu may reach up to 40 degrees Celsius until May 16, referencing the India Meteorological Department's summer forecast regarding aspects like maximum temperatures and heatwave conditions across peninsular India, including Tamil Nadu.
