Tamil Nadu 2025–26 School Exam and Holiday Calendar Released: Quarterly Exams Start Sept 18

The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has officially announced the 2025-26 academic year schedule, including exam timelines and holiday breaks for government and private schools across the state.

According to the notice, quarterly exams will begin from September 18, 2025, while half-yearly exams are slated for December 16, 2025. The annual exams are scheduled to start from April 2, 2026, with summer vacations commencing thereafter.

In addition, the calendar lists major holidays including Pongal, Christmas, Ramzan, and summer break. Schools are directed to strictly adhere to the schedule to ensure uniformity across districts.

The timetable applies to all students from Classes 1 to 12 and has been circulated to all school heads and district education officers.

The Tamil Nadu Directorate of School Education has released the comprehensive academic calendar for the 2025-26 school year, applicable to both government and private schools. This includes a well-structured schedule for quarterly, half-yearly, and annual exams, along with clearly defined holiday breaks for the upcoming session.

TN Schools 2025-26 - Exam Dates:

Quarterly Exams: Start from September 18, 2025

Half-Yearly Exams: Scheduled from December 16, 2025

Annual Exams: To begin from April 2, 2026

These exams will be conducted for students in Classes 1 to 12, and schools have been instructed to complete the syllabus accordingly.

Holiday Schedule Highlights:

Pongal Holidays: January 14 to 18, 2026

Christmas Break: December 24-26, 2025 (for Christian minority schools)

Ramzan Break: As per official holiday list (tentatively around March 2026)

Summer Vacation: Expected from mid-April to early June 2026

Other Guidelines Included in the Academic Calendar:

Unit Tests and Monthly Assessments to be held at regular intervals.

Sports Day, Annual Day, and Cultural Events should be planned within allocated windows.

Remedial Classes to be arranged during weekends or after school hours, especially for board classes (10 & 12).

No deviation from the official calendar is allowed unless permitted by the Directorate under exceptional circumstances.
