The Supreme Court of India has dismissed the petition regarding postponement of JEE Main and NEET 2020 entrance exams scheduled in September. The Court has dismissed the Public Interest Litigations (PILs) today (August 17) which have been filed demanding to defer the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (UG) Exam 2020.
The Apex Court dismissed the plea saying that Life cannot be stopped. We have to move ahead with all safeguards. It added the career of students cannot be put under jeopardy for long.
Justice Arun Mishra headed the three-judge bench of Supreme Court and Advocate Alakh Alok Srivastava was representing the students who had filed the PIL to postpone the JEE Main and NEET.
Justice Arun Mishra said, "The two exams are scheduled to be conducted in September. Life cannot be stopped. We have to move ahead with all safeguards and all... Are students ready to waste one whole year? Education should be opened up. COVID may continue for a year more. Are you going to wait for another year? Do you know what the loss to the country and peril to the students is?"
NEET & JEE Main 2020 Petition (PIL)
Earlier, a group of students and their parents have approached the Supreme Court demanding to postpone the exams citing health and safety concerns. The PIL was filed requesting to defer the examination till the situation normalizes across the country.
Gujarat Parents Association has also reached out to the Supreme Court seeking relief from any further delay in holding of the entrance exams such as JEE Main and NEET following the plea requesting to postpone the exams.

The organiser of JEE Main and NEET, National Testing Agency (NTA), has postponed the exams scheduled in April/May due to the outbreak of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and followed by the nation-wide lockdown.
