Students to get the choice of appearing twice in 10th, 12th Board Exams from 2025-26

On Monday, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced that students will have the opportunity to take their 10th and 12th class board exams twice a year, starting from the academic session 2025-26. Pradhan stated that this initiative is aimed at reducing academic stress and is in line with the objectives set forth in the National Education Policy (NEP) introduced in 2020. He emphasized that the NEP 2020 envisions biannual board examinations to offer students more chances to excel academically.

Students can appear 10, 12 Board Exams twice

As per the New Curriculum Framework (NCF) unveiled by the Ministry of Education in August of the previous year, board exams will be conducted at least biannually to ensure students have ample time and opportunities to demonstrate their capabilities. Additionally, students will have the choice to retain the highest score attained. Pradhan inquired if the students present at the event were satisfied with the decision and advised them to retain the highest marks achieved after participating in both exams.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji's vision through the NEP is to keep students stress-free, enrich them with quality education, keep students linked with culture and prepare them for the future. This is the formula for making India a developed country by 2047," he said.

At the request of Chhattisgarh's School and Higher Education Minister Brijmohan Agrawal, Pradhan mentioned that more secondary and higher secondary schools would be included in the scheme's next phase. He also mentioned India's bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games, expressing his hope that 10 percent of the country's medals in the quadrennial event would be secured by athletes from Chhattisgarh. He emphasized the need to initiate preparations for this endeavor starting this year.
