All the 23 IITs in the country have announced a steep hike in annual fees from Rs 90,000 to Rs 2 lakh. The fee hike is for all undergraduate courses for the upcoming academic session.
Students getting admissions in any of the Centrally Funded Institutions like the IITs will have to shell out double the annual fee of what is being charged at present. The annual fee for UG courses at IITs have been hiked from Rs 90,000 to 2 lakhs per year.
Last month, the standing committee of IIT Council (SCIC) approved a proposal for a three-fold hike in annual fee in IITs.

According to reports, Education Minister Smriti Irani has also promised a complete tuition fee waiver for the backward class and physically challenged students studying at IITs.
Besides a complete fee waiver for these students, those with a family income of less than Rs 5 lakh will be given a 66% concession in the fees," Irani said during an event in Surat yesterday.

Currently, 15 per cent, 7.5 per cent and 27 per cent of seats are reserved for SC, ST and OBC candidates in the 23 IITs in the country.
