Schools in Odisha will be reopening from January 8 onwards after a long hiatus following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, according to a recent announcement made by the Odisha government.
As per the Odisha School and Mass Education Department, initially Classes for Grade 10 and Grade 12 students will be conducted to keep a check on the pandemic and its spread.
The Education Department informed that Class 10 courses will commence from January 8 and completed by April 26 while those involving Class 12 students will start from January 8 and conclude on April 28.

The practical exams for BSE Board students will be conducted from April 27 to May 2 with theory papers to be held from May 3 to May 15, whereas the practical test for CHSE Board will be held from April 29 to May 14 with board exams to be conducted from May 15 to June 11.

The decision to reopen schools for Class 10 and Class 12 students in the initial phases is aimed at helping them appear in national entrance examinations to pursue higher education on clearing their board exams.
"This decision has been taken by the government keeping in the larger interest of the students of Class 10 and 12 so that the students of our State can timely appear for All-India competitive tests," a circular issued by the Odisha School and Mass Education Department read.
The resumption of classes will be in compliance with the Covid-19 guidelines issued by the Odisha Health and Family Welfare Department and Special Relief Commissioner.
It may be noted that all government schools and private institutions in Odisha have remain shut since March 17, 2020 owing to the COVID pandemic.
