The Odisha government has issued an order to close all schools in the state from April 18 to 20 due to the forecasted heatwave by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). According to IMD's predictions, temperatures are expected to exceed 45 degrees Celsius in certain areas of Odisha during this period.

As per the meteorological forecast, temperatures are projected to increase by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in numerous locations over the next two days. There is anticipation that temperatures will surpass the 45-degree Celsius threshold in select areas of Odisha from April 18 to 20.
According to data provided by weather scientist Umashankar Das, Baripada town in Mayurbhanj district claimed the title of the hottest location in the entire country on Tuesday (April 16), recording a temperature of 43.6 degrees Celsius.

In a bulletin, the IMD's Bhubaneswar Centre warned that heatwave conditions would persist in several districts including Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Angul, and Boudh on Wednesday.
