Schools, colleges remain closed in Chennai till November 22

Schools and colleges in 11 districts including Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Trichy and Perambalur have been declared closed till November 22. It will reopen on November 23, announced Chennai district collector, E Sundaravalli.

Heavy rain covered several parts of the city and borders. The city's major waterways, including the Adyar river, the Cooum river and and Buckingham canal, are overflowing. Till the situation improves schools and colleges in district would remain closed. All upcoming exams have been postponed.

On November 15, the city of Chennai recorded 85.5 milimetre of rain. The incessant rain brought the city to a halt for hours with roads being waterlogged and subways submerged. On November 16, the public works department released 500 cusecs (cubic feet per second) of water from the Chembarambakkam reservoir in Kancheepuram.
