Supreme Court grants the plea by Medical Council of India(MCI) for the extension of counselling dates for students who made through National Eligibility and Entrance Test 2017 for medical and dental courses in the country.
The apex court gave way for the extension of dates which was put forth by the counsel from MCI. According to the extension, the admission process for the MBBS course will conclude by August 28, 2017 and September 10, 2017 for the dental courses.
The dates were extended by Justice Dipak Misra and N. V. Ramana after the Council said that there was a delay in the declaration of results because of the interim order by Madras High Court stopping the publication of results by CBSE.

The National Eligibility and Entrance Test was conducted on May 7, 2017. After Supreme court's stay on the interim order on June 12, 2017, the results were finally declared on June 23, 2017. The delay in publication of results was pointed out by the counsel from MCI, as the reason for which the counselling couldn't take place as per the schedule decided by the SC.
The Apex court stayed the Madras High court's order and said that the declaration of the results and following counseling will be subject to its decision in the matter pending before it.
