The State Bank of India (SBI) has invited applications for the post of Group Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) on a contractual basis. The senior cybersecurity position offers an annual compensation of up to ₹2.50 crore, making it one of the bank's specialised senior-level technology recruitment opportunities. SBI has advertised one vacancy for the post under Advertisement No. CRPD/SCO/2026-27/21.

The online application process began on September 4, 2026, and eligible candidates can submit their applications until September 24, 2026. The post is indicative for Mumbai/Navi Mumbai, while the engagement will initially be for three years and may be extended by another two years.
The Group CISO will be responsible for senior-level information and cybersecurity functions at SBI. The role involves expertise in areas such as information security, cyber defence, security operations, security architecture, enterprise risk management and regulatory compliance.
The annual compensation can be up to ₹2.50 crore, with the detailed recruitment information indicating a 90:10 ratio between fixed and variable pay. SBI has stated that the compensation is negotiable and will depend on the candidate's profile and experience.
The recruitment is intended for highly experienced information technology and cybersecurity professionals. Candidates must meet the prescribed educational, professional experience and age requirements as on August 31, 2026.
For educational qualification, candidates can apply with a B.E./B.Tech degree in disciplines such as Computer Science, Computer Science and Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics, Electronics and Communications Engineering or Cyber Security, with a minimum of 50% marks. Candidates holding MCA, M.Tech or M.Sc. in the specified disciplines can also meet the qualification requirement.
The maximum age is 57 years as on August 31, 2026. SBI also prefers professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCISO and CISA.
Candidates must have 15 to 20 years of post-qualification experience in IT or information security, including at least five years in core information security, cybersecurity or cyber defence at senior management level in banks or financial institutions.
The selection process includes shortlisting followed by an interaction. Shortlisted candidates are required to make a 10-minute presentation covering their relevant job profile, projects or professional achievements. The process is followed by CTC negotiation.
Candidates should note that shortlisting is provisional and the eligibility details and documents will be verified subsequently. SBI has also clarified that teaching and training experience will not be counted towards the prescribed eligibility experience.
The application fee is ₹750 for General, EWS and OBC candidates, while SC, ST and PwBD candidates are exempted from payment of the application fee.
