Satavahana University to shut down

After the protest by the students in demand for hostel and basic amenities, Satavahana University, Vice-Chancellor, Prof K Veera Reddy has declared that the university will be remain closed indefinitely.

The decision was taken following students protest. "Facilities cannot be provided overnight and so the hostels will remain closed for sometime," he said.

Students started protesting form September 01, 2014 for demanding basic amenities and hostel facilities in the varsity campus.

The students also demanded Prof S Sujatha, Principal of University Arts College to step down from her post.

The estimated cost for the hostel is Rs 6.74 crore, and was supposed to be completed by July 2014.

About the University:
The University was established in 2008 in 200 acres of main campus situated in the immediate neighborhood of Karimnagar Town on Malkapur Road. Currently 600 students are pursuing various courses in the University.

The University started functioning from the main campus from September 2012 and purposes to shift the entire PG Programmes into main campus by Ju;y/August 2013 in a full-fledged manner.

The University offers many of its PG, UG and Professional Programmes through two of its Colleges called University College and University Post Graduate College, one situated in Karimnagar Town and the other at Godavarikani. Also, there are over 160 affiliated Government and Private Colleges spread far and wide over the entire Karimnagar District.
