"The University has decided to not to conduct examination simultaneously for repeater and fresher courses," says acting vice-chancellor, Mukul Shah of Gujarat University. The examination for semester one, three and five will be conducted in October-November, and two, four and six semester's exam will be held in the month of April.
He says "As a result, repeaters will also have to appear with first timers." on the other hand, the heads of departments in various faculties of University of Gujarat opined "we hardly get enough time to complete the syllabus, let alone do research on various topics and on top of that, students stop coming a fortnight before examinations and this also causes loss of classroom teaching."
The director of language faculty, Vasant Bhatt says "classroom teaching had decreased sharply because of the semester system. More time is spent on administrative work than on classroom teaching."
Subhash Brahmbhatt, principal of HK Arts College, put forth his views "there is an urgent need to restructure the examination system as students do not get anything out of the semester system."
Keeping this view in mind, Gujrat University had also oraginsed one seminar on semester system sometime back, officials claimed.
"In the semester system, the curriculum has been chopped into two mindlessly. Even the fee to be paid has been increased with additional form fee, term fee, examination fee, degree certificate fee and several other kinds of fee charged from the students," says a GU syndicate member.
