The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) will conduct Class 10 board examinations twice a year from the 2026-27 academic session. The new system is intended to give students an additional opportunity to improve their marks within the same academic year and reduce the pressure associated with a single high-stakes board examination.

The decision was announced by Rajasthan School Education and Panchayati Raj Minister Madan Dilawar.
Under the revised arrangement, every Class 10 student will have to appear for the first board examination, while the second examination will provide an opportunity for eligible students to improve their performance. The new framework is expected to be implemented for the RBSE Class 10 examination in 2027.
The first examination will be the compulsory board examination for Class 10 students. Students who qualify in the first examination will have the option of taking the second examination to improve their marks in up to three subjects. Students who are satisfied with their first result will not be required to take the second examination.
The first examination is expected to be conducted in February-March 2027, followed by the second opportunity examination in May-June 2027. The final timetable will be issued by RBSE through its official channels.
A major feature of the revised system is the best-of-two rule. Students appearing in the second examination for improvement will have their better performance considered for the final result.
For example, if a student scores higher in a subject during the first examination and obtains a lower score in the second attempt, the higher score will continue to be considered. Conversely, students who improve their marks in the second examination can benefit from the improved score.
This arrangement is aimed at making the second examination an opportunity for improvement rather than an additional academic burden.
The second examination is primarily intended for students seeking to improve their performance in a maximum of three subjects.
The opportunity will also be available to students placed in the supplementary category, who can use the examination for eligible subjects. Students absent from the first examination may also be permitted to appear in the second examination, subject to the prescribed conditions, including submission of a valid medical certificate or required authorisation where applicable.
Students should wait for the detailed RBSE notification for the final rules governing eligibility and subject combinations.
Another important aspect of the new examination model is that both board examinations will be based on the complete Class 10 syllabus. Students planning to use the second attempt for improvement will therefore need to prepare the full syllabus rather than focusing only on selected portions.
RBSE has already published academic and syllabus-related information for Examination Year 2027, indicating preparations for the new examination cycle.

The introduction of two annual examinations gives students greater flexibility to manage their academic performance. It could particularly help students whose results are affected by examination stress or an unexpectedly poor performance in one or more subjects.
Students preparing for RBSE Class 10 Board Exam 2027 should continue following the prescribed syllabus and wait for the official subject-wise timetable. The final examination dates, application procedure and detailed rules for the second examination will be communicated by RBSE through its official website.
The new system marks a significant change in the Rajasthan Board's Class 10 assessment structure, providing students with an additional chance to improve their scores without having to wait for another academic year.
