Students of first year, doing under graduation from Delhi University were in a state of shock when they saw the question paper. The entire question paper was filled with questions like what are the functions of a library? What kind of resources does a library maintain?
These types of questions were put up in the information technology paper. Students frustration reached at its peak when they saw History and Cultural paper. The paper consist of question like: In your opinion what makes an area urban? Discuss with suitable example. And the agony continues in the third paper in which they asked question like: Describe the experience in traveling in Delhi Metro.
Students were confused and dejected, most of them raised their voice by stating that are they giving first semester paper or the examination of VII standard. According to them the first year was the complete waste of time and money.
Delhi University has introduced 12 foundation courses under FYUP with the aim to develop a critical mind and do some value addition. The teachers analysing the questions says "this is nothing but wastage of precious time of the students. These courses are not adding any value to the degree."
Students even put up a question on DU, stating "if this is why the DU degree has been extended by a year."
J Khuntia, a commerce teacher was quick to bounce back on the issue "for example, in the paper on science and life, it was asked: What institutes a balanced diet? Design an Indian meal containing the essential ingredients of the balanced diet. This is a school level general knowledge question. What kind of value addition is happening?"
A student of commerce from Kirori Mal College said "this is unthinkable in any other university. For a whole year, we are subjected to such stupidity. And there are four foundation courses we have to study after this."
