QS World University Ranking By Subject 2019: Indian Universities Improved

The leading education consultancy in the world, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), had released the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2019. The rankings display the best universities for 48 different academic subjects. With no surprise, the universities from the United States and the United Kingdom has dominated the rankings with 28 and 13 number one ranks respectively.

Compared to last year, Indian institutes improved their performance in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2019. A total of 89 departments from India featured in the rankings. India proved itself as the education hub for Computer Science and Information System with a presence of 17 universities. IIT Bombay and IIT Kharagpur achieved a decent position in the Mineral and Mining Engineering subject. The University of Delhi occupied the 37th rank in Development Studies under Social Science & Management.

India's pioneer institutes such as IITs and IISc are ranked for 104 times with more than 30 improvements in rank. Only seven institutes registered the drop in rank. While coming to the largest number of department ranked worldwide are United States (1,884), United Kingdom (958) and Australia (508).

The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2019 cover a total of 48 disciplines, which are grouped into five broad subject areas. They are given below.

Arts & Humanities

Life Science & Medicine

Subjects covered under this group - Agriculture & Forestry, Anatomy & Physiology, Biological Sciences, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy & Pharmacology, Psychology and Veterinary Science.

Natural Sciences

Subjects covered under this group - Chemistry, Earth & Marine Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Geography, Materials Science, Mathematics and Physics & Astronomy.

Social Science & Management
