Prime Minister Modi Unveils Comprehensive Urban Development Initiatives In Delhi

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch a series of significant urban development initiatives, spotlighting his government's commitment to improving living conditions in the capital. Among the notable projects is the inauguration of 1,675 flats, constructed under a slum rehabilitation scheme at Swabhiman Apartments in Ashok Vihar. These flats are part of a broader effort to provide dignified housing to residents of Jhuggi Jhopri (JJ) clusters, aligning with Modi's vision of "housing for all." This initiative not only aims to offer a healthier living environment but also equips the new homes with necessary amenities and facilities.

Furthermore, Modi's agenda includes the unveiling of two major urban redevelopment projects, which are expected to significantly alter the city's landscape. The first is the World Trade Centre (WTC) in Nauroji Nagar, a project that has revitalized the area by replacing outdated quarters with modern commercial towers. The WTC offers approximately 34 lakh square feet of high-end commercial space, incorporating green building practices such as solar energy generation and rainwater harvesting. Additionally, the Prime Minister will open the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) type-II quarters in Sarojini Nagar, featuring 28 towers with over 2,500 residential units. These quarters are designed with modern amenities, emphasizing environmental sustainability through features like sewage treatment plants and solar-powered waste compactors.

The prime minister's involvement underscores the government's push to enhance infrastructure and living standards in Delhi, especially with assembly polls on the horizon. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), aiming to challenge the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) dominance in the city, views these projects as a testament to its dedication to urban development. The inauguration of these flats, priced affordably for the beneficiaries, illustrates the central government's initiative to make housing accessible. Eligible individuals will contribute less than seven percent of the construction costs, highlighting the project's affordability.

In addition to housing and redevelopment projects, Modi will also inaugurate the Central Board of Secondary Education's (CBSE) integrated office complex in Dwarka, constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 300 crore. This building, adhering to the highest environmental standards, includes offices, an auditorium, and a state-of-the-art data center, among other features. It is designed according to the Platinum Rating standards of the Indian Green Building Council, showcasing the government's commitment to eco-friendly construction practices.

Lastly, the Prime Minister's schedule includes laying the foundation stones for three new projects at Delhi University, with a combined value of over Rs 600 crore. These projects encompass an academic block in the Eastern Campus at Surajmal Vihar, another in the Western Campus at Dwarka, and the construction of Veer Savarkar College in Roshanpura, Najafgarh. These educational facilities are set to offer advanced facilities for students, further emphasizing the government's focus on improving educational infrastructure in the city.
