The Indian government has introduced a groundbreaking initiative called the Prime Minister Internship Scheme, set to revolutionize career opportunities for young professionals. Starting in December 2024, this ambitious program aims to offer over 125,000 internships to Indian youth through partnerships with 500 top corporations. Targeted at Indian nationals aged 21-24, the scheme is designed for individuals who are not enrolled in full-time education or employment but may be pursuing distance learning. It welcomes high school graduates, ITI certificate holders, and diploma and degree students, while excluding those from elite institutions like IITs, IIMs, and those with professional degrees like CA, MBA, or MBBS. This makes the program inclusive, catering to a wide range of students across the country.

A standout feature of the Prime Minister Internship Scheme is its thoughtful approach to inclusivity and corporate collaboration. Companies offering internships will be selected based on their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) records over the last three years, ensuring that only socially responsible firms are involved. Internships can last up to 12 months, with a minimum of 6 months of on-site experience, and each intern will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 5,000, consisting of Rs 4,500 from the government and Rs 500 from the company. Additionally, interns are entitled to a one-time grant of Rs 6,000 for incidental expenses.

The application process opens on October 12, 2024, with registrations closing by October 25. Selected candidates will receive their offer letters between November 8 and November 15, and internships will commence on December 2, 2024.
