PARAKH Conducts First State Educational Achievement Survey (SEAS)

PARAKH, in collaboration with the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), has successfully conducted the inaugural State Educational Achievement Survey (SEAS) on November 3rd, 2023.

This significant initiative, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aims to revolutionize the educational landscape of India. Focused on students in grades III, VI, and IX at the block level across 30 states and union territories, SEAS 2023 included a substantial sample size of approximately 8.5 million students and 6 lakh teachers, representing 3 lakh schools in 5917 blocks. This comprehensive survey represents a crucial shift, providing valuable insights into the educational scenario at the block level.

Shri. Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, DoSE&L, Ministry of Education, commended the successful execution of the State Educational Achievement Survey 2023, stating that the survey offers crucial insights into the strengths and potential areas for improvement within the education system. He emphasized that these insights will be foundational for evidence-based policies and initiatives directed towards enhancing the quality of education for students.

Shri. Vipin Kumar, Additional Secretary, DoSE&L, Ministry of Education, announced the successful implementation of the State Educational Achievement Survey by PARAKH, covering a substantial sample of approximately __ million learners. This assessment, conducted at the educational block level, is expected to have profound implications for education policies, including teacher training programs and the creation of teaching and learning support resources. The survey at the block level will contribute to the development of implementation training programs, supplementary material, innovative pedagogical approaches, and improved classroom practices.

SEAS 2023, designed to elevate learning standards, places a strong emphasis on key subjects such as mathematics and language proficiency.

Prof. Indrani Bhaduri, Head and CEO of PARAKH, highlighted that the survey evaluates Language and Mathematics proficiency, providing a baseline for competencies in foundational, preparatory, and middle education stages. Meticulously designed assessment tools, combining standardized paper-pen methods and technology, ensure precise data acquisition. The State Educational Achievement Survey by PARAKH is not just a survey; it marks a transformative journey toward an inclusive, effective, and student-centered education system in India.
