Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced the launch of a flagship education scheme under which 835 model primary schools will be established across the state in the first phase.

These schools aim to provide high-quality infrastructure, modern classrooms, and digital learning tools to improve foundational education. The move is part of the state's broader commitment to uplift rural education and ensure holistic child development. Further expansion of the scheme is expected in future phases to cover more districts.
In a major boost to primary education, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has unveiled plans to establish 835 model primary schools as part of the first phase of a flagship education reform initiative. This move is aimed at transforming the learning experience for children in government schools across the state.
These model schools will feature modern infrastructure, including smart classrooms, digital learning aids, library facilities, clean sanitation, and playgrounds, aligning with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 recommendations. The schools will be equipped to deliver quality foundational education and address critical learning gaps among children, especially in rural and tribal areas.
The government is focusing on early-grade literacy and numeracy through enhanced teacher training, integration of technology, and community participation. The scheme also emphasizes English-medium instruction, where feasible, without compromising regional language learning.
According to the Chief Minister, this initiative reflects the state's commitment to building a strong educational ecosystem and bridging the rural-urban divide in school infrastructure. The flagship scheme will be scaled up in a phased manner, with more such model schools planned in subsequent phases to cover the remaining districts.
The project will be executed through a collaboration between the Department of School and Mass Education, local governing bodies, and Panchayati Raj Institutions, ensuring grassroots implementation.
This comes amid nationwide efforts to improve learning outcomes and ensure equitable access to quality education, especially under programs like PM SHRI Schools, Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, and NIPUN Bharat. Odisha's model schools are expected to serve as centres of excellence, setting benchmarks for other public schools in terms of quality, inclusivity, and innovation.
