The Board of Secondary Education (BSE) of Odisha has released the dates for the special board exam for students of class 10, which will begin from July 30, 2021, and would be conducted in an offline mode. The students who are dissatisfied with their grades obtained through the board's alternative evaluation process can sit for the exams.
The special board exam application process will commence on July 5, 2021. The board has also declared that the students would not be charged any fees in order to sit for the tests, which will run through August 5, 2021.
The board tested students under an alternate assessment scheme after cancelling the class 10 board exam 2021 owing to a surge in covid-19 cases. Over 97.89 percent of students passed. Despite a record percentage of results, students and parents across the state were outraged, accusing the system of flawed evaluation and inequity.

Following student and parent protests, the board explained that there is no inconsistency in the evaluation method because students were granted marks according to the moderation scheme set by a team of experts comprised of educationists and academicians.
"The board was prepared to take exams in May in offline mode, but it had to cancel the exam at the last minute due to the sudden rise in Covid-19 cases. When the tests were cancelled, the board stated that students who were dissatisfied with the results of alternate assessments might retake the exam in offline mode when the circumstances improve. Admission to higher secondary schools will not be a problem for the children, according to a board official.
