Revamp the syllabus to help students

Berhampur, Nov 13: Odisha Higher Education Minister Pradeep Panigrahi has asked academicians to revamp the present syllabus in higher education and to design it appropriately to enable the students to compete at national and international levels.

"The percentage of students from the state succeeding in national and international level is very nominal. Success rate of students from other states, particularly in southern India is higher," the minister said.

"Its time to think about the sorry state of affairs prevailing in the state and to take steps to produce the best students," he said.

Referring his recent visit to some of the colleges in the state, the minister said the standard of several students in various institutes was too poor, and they were unable to answer some basic questions in general knowledge.

"Being the education minister, I am ashamed of the poor state of affairs," he said.

He said there was large scale vacancy in the job market in national and international level. But the students from Odisha could not compete at the national and International level unless they improve their standard of education.

"The college and university authorities should take responsibilities to meet the challenges," Panigrahi said.

He also stressed on the participatory method of teaching where there is regular interaction between the students and teachers. At the same time, minister asked the teachers to upgrade themselves.
